Annette Funicello, then 13 years old, was discovered by Walt Disney in an amateur show called Swan Lake performed in Fullerton California. Funicello was, much to the annoyance of other Mickey Mouse Club stars, joined the cast after the first season had ended and was not required to audition. This was possibly the first LP featuring a rock songwriter. Funicello's debut film about a beach party, Beach Party was produced by AIP. Walt Disney personally examined the scripts and granted his approval to each so that Annette to keep her pristine image. Funicello's vehicles for film were utilized to make other artists break.
